In-class Exercises

Apply cartographic concepts while looking at a map

For this exercise, you will be part of a group. Each group will work with a different cartographic concept:

  1. Open the NYC Bike Map.
  2. On your own, look at the map and come up with two descriptions of how your group's term applies to the map. For example, if your group has "color" one description might be, "one color choice on this map is representing the water with blue." You are describing the map, not critiquing it, so don't judge the map (yet).
  3. As a group, pick two of your descriptions to share with the rest of the class.
